And I think that I kinda forgot to put a disclaimer on the other chapters, so
yeah, as you know, I don't own the G-boys or their gundams, but I'd really like
to. Unfortunately, I'm only a poor student who is bad at history.

Heero couldn't wait for the next weekend to arrive, but unfortunately, between
one Saturday and the next, there are six more days.

And they were going to take Wufei shopping.

"Hey Usagi, could you take my bag to our room please, and I'll go get Meiran.
Meet us out front?" Sammy asked. Heero nodded his approval and took her bag
along with his. They went their separate ways and met up again not two minutes
later.

"Good afternoon, Usagi," Wufei greeted.

"Meiran," Heero countered. "How are you?"

Wufei smirked. "Never been better."

"Let's GO!" Sammy shouted, pulling Heero behind her, and he, laughing, grabbed
Wufei's wrist, dragging him along.

Wufei groaned. /Oh this is gonna be *bad*. But, he's more open. It's wonderful
to see how much he's changed in under a week. It was so quick, though. I hope
that he's not just figured out how to put up a false front, that could be bad.
I have a feeling, though, that we've simply uncovered the Heero that was buried
for a very long time. And I think I love the boy that's under the mask even
more. LIKE. Like, Wufei, Like. You can't love him. He's DUO's, not yours./

***********

The rest of the week passed by in what seemed to be a daze for Heero. Every day
was pretty much the same, boring, and he found himself actually daydreaming in
class, slipping back into old war habits to respond when the teachers called on
him. If it hadn't been for Sammy, truthfully, he would have forgotten to do
several assignments.

As he would have guessed, he didn't see much of Wufei or his pig-tailed
roommate. He was thankful that he had asked Wufei when they had gone shopping,
or else he wouldn't have had the chance to.

It was Thursday afternoon that Heero began to wonder about how little he saw of
the black-haired pilot. If they truly did have a mission to complete, would
they not have failed because of lack of contact? Heero doubted that Wufei would
have let that happen. So why didn't he see the other? Was he being avoided? In
Heero's mind, that was the most logical answer, but then his next question was
why. /I know for a fact that I don't make a bad girl, so why would he be
avoiding me?/

The thoughts left Heero's mind as the bell rang and he quickly left to meet the
gang for lunch.

*********

Everyone was excited about going, but unfortunately they couldn't change their
plans with such short notice. Heero wondered about that, but didn't comment. It
was just as well, though. Sammy was Heero's best friend, and he would be
leaving her and L2 soon, so he wanted to spend as much time with her and Duo as
he could.

As the three of them stepped off the bus, stretching - it had been a *long* bus
ride - a black figure shot out of the bushes and latched on to Heero. He would
have punched it, too, if he had not recognized the long braid trailing after it.

"It's been so long Hee-chan!"

"Hello, Duo. It's good to see you, too," Heero replied. "The rest of the gang
couldn't make it, but Sammy's here, and Meiran could come too."

"Hey Meiran. So you're the Sammy that's been helping out Hee-chan, huh? I don't
know, she looks kinda scrawny to me..."

"Duo..." Heero growled warningly.

"I know what she needs!" Duo said with enthusiasm. "Sushi!" Trust Duo to think
of food. "Come on, I know this great restaurant right down the street from
here, and they serve the best food. I *love* their beef sushi, it's amazing!"

"I thought sushi was made with fish," Sammy said, more a question than a
statement.

"I did too, but they called it sushi, Hee-chan?" Duo asked, grabbing the bags
of all three of them and starting to walk in the direction of the restaurant.

"Sushi can be made with anything, and it doesn't have to be raw. Mainly it's
rice and whatever else you want wrapped up in seaweed," Heero explained,
looking around. Duo shrugged, and opened the door to one of the restaurants on
the avenue. Everyone filed in, and Duo followed behind.

"Hey Momma!" Duo called. "I brought some friends!"

"Your mom owns this place?" Sammy asked. The other pilots winced, but Duo
seemed to take it in stride.

"Nah, Lady runnin' the joint just likes to be called that."

"Oh."

Suddenly, a fairly large woman came forward and embraced Duo. "Oh! Is Duo! Good
to see ya, boy!" she said, without a trace of an accent.

Heero made a mental note to himself, /Hugs are good. Hug people you...care for,
I think./

"Come in, come in, eat up! You don't eat 'nough!"

**********

After dinner, it was a short walk to the salvage yard, where Duo had made his
home from an old building that had been partially collapsed, but appeared to
have been rebuilt. Duo began the quick tour. "This's the livin' room, and
that's the kitchen over there. Down here's the bathroom, first door on the
left, my room's the second. The closet has towels and things for if you wanna
take a shower. Um, I only have two spare bedrooms, so unless two of ya wanna
share a bed, someone'll hafta take the couch..."

"We'll share," Sammy volunteered for herself and Heero. Judging by the shock on
both Duo's and Wufei's faces, they thought that she didn't know about Heero.

"That okay with you, Hee-chan?" Duo asked, giving him a chance to back out.

"Yeah," Heero said with a shrug. "I don't mind." Heero immediately burst out
laughing at the look of shock on their faces, and Sammy wasn't long in
following, unable to hold it in herself. "She already knows about me being a
guy, you two, you don't have to hide it."

"But oh was it worth it to see your faces!"

Duo nearly burst out laughing himself, but Wufei looked ready to burst. "Well
then, he growled, I guess it only be right then that he share a room with
Maxwell, am I wrong?"

Sammy abruptly stopped laughing and stared hard at Wufei in what looked to be a
mix of shock and horror. Heero merely stopped laughing, and turned a very nice
shade of pink.

/All according to plan.../ Wufei thought, then put on a face that made him look
to be too upset to notice Heero's discomfort. Duo did notice, though, and put
on the jester's mask.

"Yeah, that'll be fine. Just like back in the war, eh, Hee-chan?"

Heero nodded stiffly, still trying to cover his embarrassment. Sammy just stood
there, knowing that she was *definitely* missing something and bound and
determined to find out just what.

"Well, it's late," Wufei declared, "I'm going to bed."

Everyone else followed suit, some a bit more reluctantly than others.

********

Not five minutes after everyone had gone to bed, Sammy slipped out of her room
and entered Wufei's. He was curled up in a blanket underneath the only light
still on in the room, reading a book.

"Do you need something, Sammy?" he asked.

"I want to know what the hell is going on," Sammy whispered harshly. "I didn't
think that you could be that dense, know-it-all. Or haven't you figured out yet
that your brother's gay?"

Wufei finally looked up at her from his book. "Yes, I know."

"Then you must also know that _he_is_in_love_with_Duo_! Are you *trying* to
make this hard for him?"

Wufei smirked. "Quite the opposite, actually."

"Explain, and it better be good."

"Does Maxwell look familiar to you? Possibly at all a...new student at your
school say in the last month or so?"

Sammy thought for a moment, then it clicked. "Helen."

Wufei nodded. "We've been planning this for a while. All of us knew that those
two were in love long before the war ended, but because of his training for the
war, Usagi, since I'm assuming he didn't tell you his real name, he couldn't
recognize his emotions. He felt them, but he couldn't express them, and a lot
of times they confused him.

"Right now those two are in there, getting to know each other a little bit
better."

"If this backfires, I'm going to skin you alive."

"If this backfires, I'll let you," Wufei replied with all sincerity, and a bit
of sadness.

"You're not his sister, are you?"

Wufei shook his head.

"You may as well be."

Wufei raised an eyebrow. He was all for the silent conversations.

"Or brother, whatever. You love him more than you'll let yourself show. Kinda
like my older brother. He's my protector, of sorts. Brothers and sisters can
get on each others' nerves and still love each other in the morning, and they
don't have any sort of physical relationship. If you ask him, I'll bet he'll
say yes."

"I...thank you for your insights."

Sammy smiled, then nervously asked. "Um, would you mind if I slept in your bed
while you read?"

"Excuse me?"

"I kinda have this thing with being alone at night. I like other people to be
in the room with me. Would you...mind?"

Wufei smiled, "Not at all."

Sammy sighed in relief and climbed into the large bed, silently wondering why
all of Duo's beds were at least Queen-sized.

**********

Duo slipped into the bed with Heero, silently laughing as he felt the other boy
tense. He then did what he had always done during the war, except that Heero
had been too closed off to respond. He cuddled into the warmth that Heero
provided, and feigned sleep.

It took an hour for Heero to relax, and another half-hour for him to slowly
work his arms around the chestnut-haired boy cuddled into his chest. Duo's arms
responded by wrapping around Heero as well.

Then Heero began to talk to Duo, thinking that the boy was asleep.

"You're so cute, you know that. I missed this. I missed being warm at night. It
just wasn't the same without you, and I don't know why.

"I have this little voice inside my head, you know, and he sounds like you. Or
like you being me, but with your personality. He said it was love. I didn't
understand, and I don't think I do yet either.

"I asked Wufei what love was, but his explanation didn't help much. I could say
from his definition that I loved the mission. I would do anything so that the
mission was complete, and I missed the missions when we didn't have any, but
this is different. I'm not sure why, though.

"I told Sammy about how I feel, and she said that I was in love. I think she's
right. Women always were better with emotions anyway, weren't they? I think
she's right, Duo, I think I love you, but I don't know how to say it."

Duo kissed Heero's chest just above his tank-top, startling the other pilot.
Duo held him tighter, not wanting to scare him away. "Love is wanting to make
someone happy, wanting to protect someone no matter the cost, and feeling safe
and complete simply laying in their arms." Duo looked up into Heero's eyes. "I
love you too, Heero. Love isn't just about sex and breeding. Do you feel safe,
and warm, and happy right now?" Heero thought about it. He was safe and warm,
and while he was scared, he was happy that he was still in Duo's arms, that he
hadn't scared the other pilot off. He nodded. "That's love. Taking a person for
who they are, faults and all, and wanting to be with them till the day you die."

"Duo, I'm scared."

Duo smiled, and shifted so that it was Heero's head against his chest, not the
other way around. "I am too, Heero. Love is scary too. You fear for the one you
love, fear that you'll do something wrong, fear that they won't love you back.
I was scared too, but then I couldn't be scared anymore."

"Why not?" Heero asked, settling into the embrace and liking it.

"Because Fei told me about the hole you were working yourself into, and I
decided that it was worth it to tell you, to show you, because that way at
least you would learn how to feel."

"I'm still scared, though."

"So am I. But knowing that you aren't going to go on some suicide mission is
going to make me feel a whole lot better. I don't want you to die. Fei doesn't,
either, and, hell, I'll bet even Sammy doesn't."

"Can we try, Duo? Can we try...love?"

Duo smiled. "Of course we can."

"And, it's not all about sex?"

Duo shook his head. "Nope."

"Then, can you make me feel safe, Duo?"

"I'll do my best."

**********

And somewhere in the universe, a black-winged angel with a long chestnut braid
shook hands with his counterpart, a white-winged angel with striking cobalt
eyes. "Good job, Shinigami. Good job. I'd say we've done our part for the
century," the black-winged angel said.

"I agree with you there, Humanity. I wonder, though, why Kami switched our
charges after we were created, but I can't say that I disagree with him."

"Don't know. I'm glad he did though. Too bad they wouldn't listen to us sooner,
though."

"I think my charge heard you and yours heard me, which would confuse them
enough to black us out."

"I know what you mean."

"So, need any help chasing the demons out of the closets?"

"Hmm...I don't know. I might be persuaded to allow some help, not that I
couldn't do it myself, but..."

"But we can get it done twice as fast, and that leaves time for other
activities..."

"Mmhmm..., Hey, that reminds me, how come the other one's not our kid in this
life?"

"Fei-chan? I don't know. I'd like to say the heavens messed up, but that's not
possible."

"Maybe they were thinking of a kinky three-some?"

"Or maybe they were thinking of family."

"Huh?"

"Think about it, Humanity. We're both war-torn orphans. Through the war, we
gain each other, a brother, and two friends who could be brothers, or at least
great friends. We also get a pesty little sister and her family."

"Make that three. Don't wanna forget Hilde and Relena, and then *their*
families. My god, we have a *huge* family! Think of all we need to buy for
Christmas!"

Shinigami laughed, his cobalt eyes glittering. "We'll just have to start early
then, but first, I think that I'm a tad bit cold, would you mind warming me up?"

"Not at all..."
