And I think that I kinda forgot to put a disclaimer on the other chapters, so
yeah, as you know, I don't own the G-boys or their gundams, but I'd really like
to. Unfortunately, I'm only a poor student who is bad at history.

Sammy was first to wake up Saturday morning. She could hear her mom downstairs
fixing breakfast, and knew it to be best for Usagi to wake up before her mother
brought breakfast up to them and discovered a little surprise in Sammy's bed.

She had already learned the hard way *not* to be within reaching distance when
she woke him up, but accidentally brushed against him as she moved and he
settled into the depression she had left. His eyes shot open, and Sammy
prepared herself for the grab, that never came. "Huh?" was the best she could
come up with as she opened her eyes. Heero raised an eyebrow. "Last time you,
uh, woke up like this you, uh, tried to grab my throat. Why didn't you this
time?"

"You already know my secret, there's nothing else you can learn from my body
without me being awake, and I trust you better," Heero explained.

"Well, Mr. I-trust-you-better, time to put that trust to the test."

"Huh?"

"You're calling your friend today."

"WHAT?"

"Shhh! Keep your voice down!" Sammy waited for a moment, listening for anything
coming from the hall. It was silent, except for her mother's constant motion
downstairs, still cooking. "I'll bring the phone up tonight and you can call
him before we go to bed. It'll be perfect! Uh...where does he live, exactly?"

Heero fidgeted; he *could* lie, but that wouldn't feel right, and Duo always
hated lying, so, "L2." Sammy stared at him expectantly. "Look, I don't know his
number or where he lives. I could check my email and find out, he always lets
us know how to reach him, but I don't think that we can do that now, can we?"

Sammy got an odd glint in her eye, which Heero just *knew* meant that she had a
plan. And she did, a good plan at that.

"No way. Not a chance in hell. Whatever you're thinking, no."

She threw some clothes at him. "Just get dressed. The showers are down the
hall. Go right, two doors down. Justin's room is next to ours."

Heero suddenly panicked. He hadn't thought of that. "You don't think he heard
us last night, do you?"

"Huh? Oh, no. I hid some sound-proofing between our walls when he started
getting girlfriends and I could hear him arguing with himself in his room over
which *shoes* to wear. I swear he primps more than a girl. Took me over two
months to finally get it finished without my parents or anyone else noticing,
but I did get it finished."

"How?"

"Put the soundproofing up and then hung a sheet to look like my wall. Why do
you think you can't see the corners? And there is a reason for all the posters.
Come on downstairs when you're ready." Sammy left, presumably for breakfast and
to acquire the laptop she needed to check Heero's email. He sighed, and then
got into the somewhat baggier robe, effectively hiding his gender.

Heero grabbed some clothes and walked out of the room, heading for the
bathroom. He yawned, and then headed for his shower.

Phone conversation, Audio only:

"Good evening, Space Salvaging Services, Duo speaking, can I help you?"

"*Laugh* You sound tired."

"Yeah, I didn't get much sleep last night. Wait a sec! Heero?"

"Hai."

"Oh my God, Heero, what's up? How ya been doin', man? I haven't seen you in
forever! Are you planet-side or on L2? If you're here man, ya gotta come visit
me! It's-"

"Duo?"

"Yeah?"

"Slow down."

"Oops."

"*Laugh*"

"Do my ears deceive me? Did Heero Yuy, one time self-destructive maniac, just
_laugh_?"

"Yes."

"Mark this day in history, my good man. Are you still claiming to be Heero,
I'm favoring a new-and-improved Heero, what do you think?"

"I don't know about new, but certainly improved."

"So how ya been?"

"Alright."

"You on L2, or planet-side?"

"L2. Lady gave me a project to handle with my so-called sister and we had to
come here."

"Mission?"

"Yeah."

"Successful?"

"We didn't really have to do much, it wasn't as hard as we thought."

"Then you have to come and visit me, man!"

"Ok, um...how about next weekend?"

"Weekend?"

"Yeah, I can stop by and I'll even bring a friend or two, and my sister if I
can manage it."

"Which sister?"

"Meiran."

"I see, well, tell Wuffers hi for me, okay, and make sure he gets his scrawny
ass down here asap!"

"I will."

"And what about these other friends?"

"Well, we kinda had to go to an all-girl school, don't ask me why, so I had to,
well, you know. My roommate's great, though, and we became fast friends, and
the rest of the gang's great too."

"Oh wow. Heero has a gang. A gang of *girls* at that. I am so lovin' this. Tell
me more!"

"Well, we've been kinda working on that whole shyness thing that developed
during the war, ya know? And I was thinking, if you wouldn't mind, I could,
well, kinda experiment?"

"Experiment how?"

"Well, I'm not that much of a talker, and you are, so, um, maybe you could...
teach me some things?"

"Of course I will, buddy!"

"Great, thanks Duo."

"No problem."

"Look, I gotta go. I can't stay on the phone too long. We're getting up early
tomorrow. Sammy and I are going to take Meiran shopping."

"Oh my god, you have to get me pictures of *that*!"

"Oh, don't worry, we will. Hang on a sec. - Sammy, bring a camera. - Ok. Sorry,
but I gotta go. We'll see you next weekend?"

"Yeah! Bye, Heero."

"Bye."

********

"So?" Sammy inquired as Heero hung up the portable phone.

"He wants us to meet him next weekend," Heero said with a smile on his face.
"And he wants Meiran to come too, and some of the gang!"

"Yeah!" Sammy quite literally jumped for joy, then settled down a bit as she
knew her parents and brother were trying to sleep. "That's great news, 'Agi! I
can't wait, and I just bet the girls'll wanna come too!"

Heero allowed himself to jump a bit with Sammy, and even let out a slight
squeal. He then paused, and held a hand to his mouth. "Did I just squeal?"

"That's a good thing."

"It is?" Heero looked at Sammy like he couldn't quite believe her.

"Yeah, most people squeal when something good happens, although guys tend to do
it in a 'more manly way.'" Heero couldn't help but laugh at her impression of a
man. "Let's get some sleep now, k? We *did* tell your sister that we would be
taking her shopping tomorrow. I told mom that we'd be leaving early. Oh, and
there's something that I want to get you tomorrow at the mall. Remind me, k?"

"What is it?" Heero asked as he crawled into bed.

"A surprise," Sammy answered, following suit.

"Then how will I remind you?"

"Just tell me, 'the black one,'" Sammy instructed, and she turned out the light.

Dream~

"My, my. What a disobedient little soldier you are. Time for retraining."

"No."

"Don't talk back to me, now, zero one, you are to be a soldier. Soldiers follow
orders. You must complete your missions. You cannot accomplish this if you are
not trained well."

"New mission."

"Which directly interferes with your previous training. I will not allow you to
continue on this path."

"Please, no..."

"Are you lost?"

"Huh?"

"I said are you lost?"

"I've always been lost. I had thought I had found the way, but now I seem to be
even more lost. In truth, I have been lost since before I was born."

"That's sad. I'm not lost. I'm taking my dog Mari out for a walk. Would you
like a flower?"

"Yes, I would like that very much. Thank you."

"You're welcome. We'd better be going now. Mari wants to go home."

"All right. Before you go, though, could you tell me something?"

"Sure?"

"Are you...happy?"

"Of course! Bye now, mister! I hope you find your way home soon!"

"*Boom**crash**scream*"

"Hey Heero, what's up?"

"..."

"Oh my god Heero, what happened?"

"She's...dead."

"Yeah, I can see that Heero, but why did you bring a dead dog back with you?
And who gave you that flower?"

"Her name's Mari..."

"Excuse me?"

"The dog. Her name's Mari."

"Care to elaborate?"

"The mission. I...miscalculated. The little girl and her dog. I couldn't find
her, but Mari...I found."

"Heero, are you okay?"

"I don't understand, she was happy, Duo, why?"

"Heero..."

"I don't understand..."

**********

Heero woke himself up crying, but thankfully had not woken up the sleeping girl
next to him. He settled into the blankets once more, wiping away dried tears,
afraid to sleep again.

Eventually he drifed off into a light slumber once again, wishing that he had
someone to cling to, someone to hold him, but not knowing why.

As he drifted, he settled into a familiar lap that he could not place, and his
head was too heavy to lift and see the face of the man holding him. Black
feathered wings settled around him, shielding him, and Heero let them, drifting
off.

::Drift off to the world of endless stars,
Where nothing ever causes you harm.
Let your mind fade to darkness deep,
And may black-winged angels guard your sleep.::

::Remember Heero, Duo is always with you. He doesn't lie, but sometimes, he
does hide.::
