Title: Melting the snow
Sequel to: Snowstuck
Author: Tsunami (Mistress_Tsunami@yahoo.com)
Archive: My site (caveofbats.faithweb.com) prolly mediaminer.org soon as well under the name _shinchansgirl_ If you want it, take it, but please just let me know who you are.
Warnings: um...angst, but mostly psychological (Heero). I can think of anything else. Pretty much same as 'fore. I'm STILL messin' around with pairings right now, so, we've got 3+4, 1+5, wishful 1+2+5, and 2+H . This is the sequel to my first 1+5 that does NOT include 2, and also my first 2+H, so bear with me, I'm still learning.
Disclaimer: if I owned them, then I wouldn't be writing fanfiction, because, let's face it, I wouldn't be a *fan*. Don't sue, I've got a gun that tends to give me (and others) sugar highs.
Notes: None that I can think of. Just don't kill me until I finish this one and the Highlander one (no, I haven't forgotten it, and truthfully just need to type it), the 1+2+5 challenge I'm working on (haven't forgotten you either, Katerina, but that one's coming kinda slow...sowwy), or well, um...anything else I've pretty much forgotten (so remind me, hint, hint). You can kill me once I finish my fiction. Unless you like it, then send me feedback, and kindly *don't* kill me. I'll feed you more ff if you don't.
Oh, and ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ = scene change.
Heero and Wufei didn't go to work the day after Christmas. Truthfully, if it hadn't been for the fact that Wufei was prodding him to eat and the puppies were playing on his back, Heero would have stayed in bed the whole day.
Wufei had told him last night that asking him then would have been cliched, but if so, when would be the right time? Or was Wufei waiting for *him* to ask? Heero couldn't be sure, but he was fairly certain that Wufei's heritage demanded that Wufei ask his bride. It wasn't enough, though. He knew that something was missing. He loved Wufei with all his heart, or what was left of it, but he knew that he was still mourning the loss of Duo to Hilde.
But there was also another problem. Heero had gotten the distinct impression that Wufei had been hurting the night before, and trying not to let it show. This had simply not been his Christmas. First with Duo, then the proposal, and now this depression...
That caused Heero to jump out of bed and face the day. His smile might be more forced than usual, and he might have to fake a little more than he wanted to in order to please the one love that he *had* found, but he was determined not to mess that one up. He had already lost Duo, he would not loose Wufei as well. Besides, Duo wouldn't want him to be sad.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Duo lazed about in his bed, not really wanting to get up. Last night he had done it, admitted to himself that he simply could not have the men of his dreams and proved to himself and to the others that he had moved on. Heero had acted odd after his proposal, and looked to be near tears, and Wufei had looked a little lost himself, but he had passed that off as something else. They couldn't have been waiting for him.
Hilde had wanted to stay with Duo after that, but Heero and Wufei had insisted on taking him home to make sure he recovered, claiming it to be their fault somehow. However, as insistent they had been, inconsiderate they had not, and had offered their house to her as well.
Unfortunately, she hadn't been able to accept, since she had been called in to work. Heero had given her the spare key to their house, telling her to stop by anytime, but the two had insisted on someone being with him, or at least within hearing distance, 24/7.
That worked both ways, though. He had heard the pair crying through most of the night, though it was mostly one in particular. As much as he hated to admit it, he knew Wufei's voice, so that meant that Heero had been the one crying his eyes out. For him. And now he felt like the lowest scum that had ever crawled on the face of the Earth. Scratch that, the lowest guy in the whole Earth Sphere, colonies included.
And his foot hurt. Now that he was warm, and now that his ice had melted, it hurt. Bad.
But Heero had finally gotten out of bed, and it sounded like Wufei was making breakfast...
He didn't want to disturb what peace they had.
He could be happy with his wife-to-be, he really could. Besides, everyone knew that threesomes never worked. Two was a couple, but three was a crowd.
For the first time in his life, Duo cried for loved ones lost that had not died, and he fell asleep.
Heerp slowly carried the tray of pancakes up to the room Duo had slept in. He knocked, and, not hearing an answer, walked in.
He smiled as he saw that Duo was still asleep.
"Hey there, sleepyhead, time to get up." No response. "I brought breakfast, pancakes and hot cocoa, your favorite." Still, nothing. Heero set the tray down on the nightstand, growing worried, and gently rolled Duo onto his back. He was breathing very softly, but still breathing. Heero checked his pulse, which was slow, but there. He began to shake Duo lightly. "Duo? Come on, wake up, you're scaring me." Nothing. Nothing when he shook harder.
Heero began to panic. "WUFEI!!!!"
